Rabbi Laureate Harold Kushner

Rabbi Laureate Harold Kushner was the spiritual leader at Temple Israel for over 25 years. He is the well-known author of When Bad Things Happen to Good People and five other nationally best-selling books on how religion helps us cope with life's problems. When Rabbi Kushner stepped down from full-time pulpit work to devote himself to writing, he became our Rabbi Laureate, and in that capacity, ever since, he has continued to attend services, teach, give divrei Torah, and officate at High Holiday services.
Faith & Family: Favorite Sermons of Rabbi Harold S. Kushner was released at the end of October 2007, celebrating 40 years of Rabbi Kushner's service to this community. This wonderful book is a compilation of 18 of Rabbi Kushner's favorite sermons. You may order a copy of this and his other books through our Sisterhood Judaica Shop.  His latest books are The Book of Job; When Bad Things Happened to a Good Person (2012) and Nine Essential Things I've Learned About Life (2015).

Rabbi Kushner and Suzette were honored in June 2016 with the Sigalove Award celebrating their 50 years of service to the community, and at the same time our sanctuary was named the Rabbi Harold S. Kushner Sanctuary.  This evening was recorded by Serge Kogan in two videos posted here: the Geshelin Award honoring Steven Karas, and the Sigalove Award honoring the Kushners.
